Carrier President’s Award: Air Design, Inc.

Air Design, Inc. located in Valley Stream, NY.When you think of HVAC, your thoughts probably immediately turn to large pieces of metal equipment, ductwork, parts and tools. The words ‘caring’ and ‘compassion’ are probably not top of mind, but for James and Frank Padavan of Air Design, Inc., those words come before all else. Since 1967, the Valley Stream, N.Y. company has been working to keep their clients happy and comfortable. This year, as a result of their efforts, they are the proud first-time recipients of the Carrier President’s Award.

“It always makes us happy when one of our dealers achieves this level of success,” said Carrier Northeast Director of Marketing Mike Dziok. “But it comes as no surprise; the team from Air Design puts in long hours every day helping people save money and stay comfortable. I’m personally pleased to extend my congratulations to Frank and James.”

According to James, Air Design focuses on primarily residential heating and cooling and some light commercial, with about 80 percent of their clientele being residential. Service accounts for about 40 percent of their business. The company offers central heating and cooling installations, boiler replacement, radiant heat, duct-free installation, indoor air quality, hot water systems and duct cleaning.

The family-owned company was started by James and Frank’s father, and for James, it was never a question that he wanted to go into the family business. “I started out by working alongside my father,” James said. “I liked seeing how a good installation would make the customer happy.” Today, Air Design employs 13, has a fleet of seven trucks, and serves all of Nassau, Suffolk, Brooklyn and Queens.

James works primarily in the office, handling estimates, tax rebates and financing, whereas Frank enjoys being out in the field, finding just the right solution for clients and ensuring that the company’s NATE-certified technicians are kept abreast on all things HVAC. Part of the success of the business is due, according to James, to the values held by he and his brother. “The key to our relationship is Another aspect of the business that James and Frank agree wholeheartedly on is how their customers are treated. “Our motto has always been to provide quality installation and service for our customers’ heating and cooling needs in an honest and fair manner,” James said, adding, “Our philosophy, really, is cyclical. We firmly believe our success is based around caring. We care to take the time to help customers, and our employees care about customer satisfaction. And, my brother and I care that our employees are happy and doing their best. We think it shows – the majority of the new business we receive is through word-of-mouth.”

The deep appreciation the Padavan brothers show to their employees, their customers and each other resulted in their first-ever President’s Award win in 2011. “We are honored to be chosen,” James said. “Winning the President’s Award is an indication that we’re exceeding the industry standards. We feel that we achieved this by basing our merits not only on sales, but also on our practices. Our employees took note of this win – it meant a lot to them.”

James went on to say that being able to offer Carrier equipment helps Air Design stay at the forefront of the HVAC industry. “Pride in quality and customer support means that Carrier is a brand that possesses the same traits as we do – traits that have helped us in achieving our goals as a company.” James also indicated that being able to provide customers with new, cutting-edge technologies has also helped his company move forward. “The Carrier name is synonymous with innovation within the HVAC industry, and we look forward to continued growth with them,” James said.
